Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a pet portrait cost?
My prices start at £185 the smallest charcoal drawing, and go up to over £1000 for the largest oil paintings. The total cost will depend on the medium you choose (oil painting vs. charcoal drawing), the number of subjects and the overall size of the piece. I try to cater for all customers by having a range of prices available.
Head over to my prices page to find an option that works for you.
What do I need to provide for my commission?
You'll need to provide a photo of your pet so I can use it as a reference for the portrait. If you can provide more than one photo that's great, as not all photos work well as a painting or sketch.
It's also important that photos are a high resolution, otherwise the detail can be lost in the final artwork.
You'll also need to pay a 20% deposit in order for me to start the work (I'm happy to schedule work in without this, it is only needed for me to start the artwork).
When will I get my finished portrait?
Before you commit to your portrait (and pay your deposit) I will outline timescales for you. You do not need to proceed if the timescales do not work for you.
If I am currently working through a waitlist, I will let you know how long before I can start your artwork. I'll also let you know how long the portrait will take to complete, when I'll be able to send you a photo of the finished artwork for approval, and when I'll be able to send the piece out to you.
Please note: if you choose an oil painting as your medium, these require at least 2 months to dry before they can be varnished and sent out. Sometimes the drying time is quicker, but this is the longest you'll need to wait. Unfortunately, the drying process cannot be sped up with heat etc. as oil paints dry through oxidation as the paints reacts with oxygen in the air.
Do you offer framing?
Yes! Check out my prices page for the different options. I offer floating frames for oil paints on canvas and traditional picture frames with glass and inserts for charcoal drawings.
How to you post the finished artwork?
For charcoal sketches, I roll these and send in a strong cardboard postal tube. I've found this to be the most reliable option (after some poor experiences of using flat cardboard envelopes).
For oil paintings and sketches that have been framed I will wrap in bubble-wrap and package in a strong cardboard box.
All items are posted using Royal Mail Special Delivery, and can be tracked.
How much does postage cost?
Nothing! Postage is included in the price of your commission.
